    hello peeps of TPF!

    I've got a question again...

When a lens is labelled 'MACRO', does it mean that it is only effective for macro shooting or can it be used in non-macro situations (i.e. outdoor, portraits, etc)?

well, that's all! This topic just got me wondering.. thanks again for your responses!

Macro lenses can be used in non-macro situations. I think there are trade-offs, namely regarding focusing speed, IIRC. I'll let the others fill in the details.

For the most part, you can use a 'Macro' lens for regular shooting. The exception would be a macro specific lens like THIS.
