a few folds and you have yourself a usable diffuser for your flash

and it comes in different colours so you can experiment with coloured light!

Cereal boxes. I've made a 15" softbox, an accurate snoot, a ringlight mount for my Af540, you name it. It all works like proper bought gear AND I designed it to fold down to be perfectly flat. I carry all this gear in a folder (Which is also made of cardboard).

Belly button lint.
Collect enough of it, compress it into felt and use it to make light tight seals around darkroom doors.

Sunglasses.
Put your sunglasses in front of your camera and you get a handmade polerizer, or just some cool effect or another.
