At 4 am the alarm forces me from my warm bed, to quickly dress, grab a thermos of coffee, and head out the door for the long walk to the stand. It's funny how acute the sounds are in the cold, and how claustrophobic the darkness is on a moonless night as you carefully place each step so as to not make any noise. Finally at the stand, time to sit and wait. The first hour isn't so bad, then you start to lose the warmth from the walk. The feet are always the first to get cold, as the numbness spreads upward. By the time daylight rolls around you begin to have serious doubts as to your sanity. Been a few years now since I or the boys used this, but oh what memories linger on. Might be time to make some repairs - I've got a couple of grandsons that need some memories!
