Rob your shot got me curious so I googled "3 minute exposure" and came accross this blog, check out. It's got some really nice shots!

He has some really nice shots there, I have dabbled in long exposures a few times, it can give a totally different perspective on things when done right, rough water will smooth out, clouds will smear, cars and people will disappear

We have the ability to play with visual time so you may as well use it.
