I have a retouch project. I am starting with an older 16x20 photo that seems to be printed on board rather than paper and has some airbrushing on it. My task is to simply touch out a scratch after scanning in the photo. However, I do not like the way the airbrushing scanned in and I want to redo it. The airbrushing technique is along the bottom of the photo and is supposed to look like the portrait background that fades into the subject of the portrait. Unfortunately the color doesn't match the background (and is a bit pixelated) so I want to change it.

I decided to copy the background (using the rubber stamp) to the bottom of the photo. However, I can't figure out how to create the fade. Suggestions?

I wanted to post a pic but I do not have it on a url
