What sorts of speeds can you get away with in the US?

I'm in Maryland.

as far as what speeds. the highest speed limit in maryland I think is 65mph.
first gear on the GSX-R1000 1st gear still has a lot of room to go at the 65mph point. lol

That's what I was thinking. Because of that I'd rather go for something like a Triumph Tiger, which still goes plenty fast enough to put you in jail but doesn't give you backache! In Britain though I'd take the Gixxer.

Don't base buying a super sport bike off of how fast it goes, its all in what you want from a bike. I spend 90% of my riding on backroads, I HATE the highways or any straight road. if I had to ride a lot of highways I'd get a sport touring bike or better yet, just take my car.
