Ok, I'm very curious to see what people have to say here.
I don't know how many of you have ever tried this, but taking pictures at the Circus is a real bugger.
Figure:
Not ALL of the photos that I like fit all of these requirements, but these are the ones that I particularly liked.
These were taken with a Nikon D300 and a Nikor 70-300 4.5/5.6 lense. All pictures were at ISO 1600 or greater, and most were at ISO 2000. I had the high-ISO noise reduction set to normal or high.
I did make a point to attempt to overexpose the images just slightly to reduce noise on the subject of the shot. Generally speaking this worked pretty well, but it was challenging to get a fast exposure (to compensate for the long focal length of the lense and fast moving subjects) AND to overexpose the shot... even at ISO2000. I was terrified of going up to ISO 2400 because I know the D300 noise reduction starts to fail up in that area.
Obviously, a faster lense would help, but I was very pleased with the results. This is actually only my second time using this particular lense. Not bad for a relatively inexpensive Nikor.
Feedback welcome and appreciated. Don't hold back.
I'll post the actual images in a reply to this thread so if you open this and see nothing, give me about 10 mins and look again.

Figure:
- Very dark with high-contrast spotlights and such.
- Inconsistent and rapidly moving light.
- Rapidly moving subjects.
- Generally quite a distance from your subject.
