I'm with yah.. I'm a relative new with digital cameras. I was totally happy with my 35mm HP dedicated scanner and my Elan IIe. Then progressed to a Epson 3170 and was fine until I purchased a Canon 10D used. I found my self carrying the 10D more and more but missing film.
Then school gave me access to their equipment and I liked their scanners but hated having the make the time to go to their lab which conflicted with my real job's work schedule. Thats when I set out to get a dedicated scanner then progressed to the V700 as a happy compromise. Now i'm carrying both digital and film (Usually B&W) once again...
yes... best of both worlds. I'm happy that there has been enough market push to keep the flatbed scanners improving to this point. About 5-7 years ago, the flatbeds were utter crap.
