speckles in my pictures

I have been having a problem with speckles in the dark shadows or colors in my pictures. The lighter colors seem to be okay. I tried to use the despecke filter last night and it helped but didn't get rid of the problem. What is the best way to smooth out my problem areas.

Noise Ninja or Neat Image removes noise quite well.

Neat Image is nice - especially as a PS plugin. Also, if you get just once in awhile black spots, DCE tools has a remover for that.

any of thse programs is good. But if you can get rid of the noise straight away is even better- if you can use lower iso setting as that is what usually introduces noise.
