Sun beams

I have a canon 650D with 18-135 mm lens kit .

How do I take sun beams or light streams ? Is it possible with my body and lends ?

Do you have any examples of your trying to do this? I am not so sure that it is the camera/lens combination, so much as the time and place. I suspect that a circular polarizer and a bit of underexposure might help.
