    does the sand on the left of screen need to be smoothed (aka cropped) to give this an even texture?

    Nope, too small for me. I'd guess early teens, male. :)

    Those are both really good, I think you are right about cropping the first shot, but just a little to get rid of that small area of disturbed sand at the far left. I love the use of negative space is this photo. Nice work.
