Previously, I've only shot close-ups. On a road trip through CA I decided to try my hand at landscapes.

Well, I suppose a picture can tell a thousand words. Or it could just tell two words: I suck.

Please let me know how I can improve!

Thanks!

Thats a single shot.
I like 1 a lot. I just love any type of mountain photo with snow involved.

I would like 1 & 2 better if you didn't center the horizon line, it should cross the thirds.

Use a polarizer to reduce the haze in the distance.

# 3 is actually landscaping :)

lots of potential..

Try to decide what your area of interest is on each shot, forground, mountains, or sky.. then fill most of your frame with that scene of interest..

As stated, you have basically just chosen the mountains and planted them in the middle of the shot, so it is not easy for your viewer to decide if it's an interesting sky, or an interestinc and colorful foreground...

Always try to keep your horizons straight...........or shorelines, or tree lines.etc....

judging from the shadows, you shot this in the middle of the day. Try early morning or late evening. Your colors are a bit flat. They tend to wash out during mid day shots.
