What is the difference between Nikon ED glass and non-ED glass. What is the best type of glass for a nikon?? For Canons its L correct? what would be the "L" equivalent for Nikon?

Canon's L isn't the glass either. It just symbolises the professional grade lenses as far as I know. Nikon do this by putting a Golden Ring on the front of their lens.
