Umbrellas and regular umbrellas

I have a question:

Has anyone tried shooting through or reflecting off of a regular (rain umbrella)? One that is white, maybe? How effective would that be?

Conversely, how effective is a photographic umbrella against the rain?

Fault me for desiring too much utility in my belongings, but I'm looking for an umbrella that works well for both purposes ..

A regular rain umbrella if it's white or light yellow would have limited use as a photo reflector. Don't forget that hte handle and ribs will preclude centering the light-source which is the key to it's effectiveness. As far as using photo-umbrella in the rain; well, if you have money like that to waste, send it to me please!
