Hi All,

Generally, do you have to get permission from the client to use the photos taken of them to put on your website to add to the portfolio?

Thanks

The key phrase you've used is "have to".

No you probably don't "have to", but it's an issue which should ideally be tackled before the job! If a client finds their picture on the internet without their consent and they are unhappy then you could be infringing on their privacy and you certainly won't win any new business from them!

Your best bet is to phone them up and ask if a copy of one of their pictures is ok to put on the web. In future, build in consent on your job contract sheet if necessary - perhaps a tick box and a discount if you want to use the pictures?

Most people will probably be proud you want to use their image, but some people go bananas when the internet is involved - I'd advise taking it softly and getting permission - it's the "right" thing to do.

Thanks for that. I do intend to ask the clients and its built in our contracts, but just out of curiosity thats all...thanks for the reassurance!
