Viewfinder info display on the fritz (D610)

On a recent trip to Cancun I was having issues with lens fogging due to humidity changes. On the last day I planned to wake up early so I could get sunrise photos. I meant to put my camera and lenses in a plastic bag but being there for a wedding and partying the night away, I forgot and just set my bad on the patio.

Next morning I saw the issues, camera seems to be working fine otherwise. Turned it off and removed the battery for coming up on an week now hoping it would dry and go back to normal. Nope...

So when looking through the viewfinder, the small display at the bottom doesn't show the f-stop, metering etc. Parts of the display are visible but it is in no way useful or usable.

Anyone ever had this before? Is it a PITA to get repaired? I've never come across someone with this issue
