    International Organization of Standardization

there is also ASA which means American Standards Association

I prefer ISO as it shows that Cameras aren't Only for Americans imo.

... and before the ISO the German's had their DIN ( Deutsches Institut für Normung or German Institute for Standardization).

All three go far, far beyond merely standardizing film and sensor sensitivity.

Technically "ISO" refers to the organization and their whole body of standards. In our little world here we use "ISO" as an abbreviation for "Film/Sensor sensitivity measured in ISO standard units".

I thought that DIN meant "Deutch-Invented Number." Have you ever tried to set exposure using the DIN values?
