What to Charge? Help!

Hello there. I am fairly new at photography but have had an artist approach me about buying rights to paint one of my photos. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Without more details it is pretty tricky to help you with pricing.

Probably the biggest question is what would be the intended use of his painting, if he simply plans to hang it on his wall, give it to a friend or something like that then you can probably ask for $20-$50ish depending on how good the picture is and what you think he would be willing to pay. If he plans to make copies of his painting and sell it then you can command a higher price, or if you think hes a good painter it could be a good idea to charge a small base fee +X$/print sale.

Pretty much any time you sell the rights to your photo the first question to ask is what is the intended use. If they will make money off of your image you can ask for a lot more money than if they just want to hang it on the wall.
