Why is my filter not coming off?

I put a polarizing filter on my lens. Now when I try and take it off it just continues to turn but not unscrewing!? What do I do?
This is not a cheap lens by the way it metal.

Sounds like you're just turning the front element (a normal circular polarizer has a rotating front element and a fixed rear in order to achieve polarization at different angles). Take a wide elastic band, ensure that you have both halves of the filter covered with it, but NOT the end of the lens, and turn; it should come off easily.

Glad it proved easy. I've had a CPL seize on my most expensive lens, and ended up having to buy a filter wrench to get it off. It did get frustrating waiting for one the right size to come in.
