Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
They wanted a photo that signified the community working together to rebuild stuff. This is the version for the printer so a bit heavily sharpened.

Works. However, perhaps the sense of "rebuilding" would be more obvious if either (or both) gentlemen had their tool-belts visible.

Its ok as far as the picture and conversion go...
but to me, your clients didn't really pick a great picture in terms of embodying a feeling of "Rebuilding".
it might be cooler to just say its a picture embodying the feeling of "some guy about to shank Alan"
seriously...it was HIS toothbrush Alan....you should have known better.

My mother's house was flooded badly a few years ago. Our family didn't have the money to pay someone to rebuild, so we did it ourselves with the help of many, including groups such as this. I found that the rebuilding process isn't always the cliche men standing around with tool belts pounding hammers. In fact, rarely did the person have a tool belt or hammer--only when truly needed.

This picture depicts almost exactly what happened on a daily basis until the house was built. Lots of measuring and working together.

I like this photo and can understand why they chose it. I can relate to it, and that makes it a winner in my books.

Who am I to argue with the client?
They pays their money and takes their choice.
So the client picked this one. Without seeing the entire set, we are simply left wondering what could they have picked that may have been better.

TBH, I wasn't expecting that the viewers here would expect to or get to look at the entire set (of 40 or 50) and pick one.
The PR person wanted a photo that fit the message and the space and chose this one.
Their choice.

I like the picture. If your clients like it too (and they did as they chose it), then they're exercising the artistic judgement. The image looks crisp, the men look involved, and the "Rebuilding Together" on the T-shirt conveys the message. Guess I'm just used to workmen and contractors to be walking around with their tools on them.

You wrote that, and I understand.

I find it difficult to like this photograph for a number of reasons, so I am surprised that they selected it. The only thing that I really like is the name of the org being underlined by the man's arm.

I figured you would have made more photographs, and IMO would have made quite few that were better than this one.

I also understand that we don't get a vote, but I'm curious as to what they passed over.

To get very specific, these two guys were figuring out how to adjust the frame to accept a non-standard door that needed to be fit.
Lots of stuff went into the choice besides actual content. The available space that they could overprint without messing up the context, the t shirt showing the title, the guys being of two different ethnic groups and both guys being decently photogenic. It was simple, didn't have too much detail to draw attention from the overprinted text.
There may have been pictures that had more 'stuff' to make a story but this fit their desires.

There are around 1500 pictures out of a much larger set that were chosen to use for slide shows for the organizations contributing effort in the form of money and people. 8 photographers including myself covered the rehab of ~28 different houses in our county and each forwarded between 50 and 100 good images to me.
At a later date, I made slide shows from about 150 images and a show that summarized the rebuilding activity.
Just this year the organization got in gear with PR and social media activity and they post pictures from this set on their FB page.
Their PR firm chose images out of that set and I edited about 15 for the final Annual Report.
It doesn't seem useful (or appropriate) for me to post the entire set of 15 and have people chew over what they think is or isn't the best choice. First, it exposes all the other pictures and second, it's not my place to make a situation where an artistic director gets their decisions second guessed on a public web site.
Sorry.

I've been a Maintenance Supervisor for 33 years and have been around construction since I was knee high to a grass hopper. My immediate interpretation of this photo would be contractor and contruction. Maybe without my background it wouldn't be so obvious but I would have to say "Well done".

So why post it here if you don't want to hear our opinions?

I admit that I am lost as to how this photo fails to convey the idea of Rebuilding Together, given that it says Rebuilding Together right there on the dude's shirt.

I'm a terrible carpenter, but even I recognize roughly what's going on in here.
