Yellow-ish Effects and Old Effects

Hi Foto Experts!

I just purchased an SLR and am very interested in taking shots that look like this:

Pappardelle with Spiced Butter Recipe - 101 Cookbooks (scroll down for yellowed/old looking people pictures)

Can you help me figure out how to achieve this look. Perhaps a filter of sorts?

I also has this awesome postcard that has a similar effect, more washout and blue-ish looking. Any ideas?

...If you really want to make digital stills (I assume you're shooting digital because it's the norm these days) look like polaroids there are plenty of ways to get that result, from using presets and actions to manually desaturating and adding color casts in an image editing program.

Or you could just shoot with a polaroid.
