Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Please tell me what was done well & what can be done better. I don't have a flash (except for the on-camera flash which made it look horrible:thumbdown:)... I know something should be done to this, but I'm not sure what.... Any info would be appreciated!

Picture004-1.jpg

Edit: This was taken with a Canon T1i and a Canon 50mm

I like the pic. If I were to tweak this, I adjust the sharpening to make the ball a little crisper and adjust the black point. Nice capture. Here 's an edit to show the difference the suggestions make.

Interesting subject, composition, WB, focus, choice of aperture...... for starters.

:lmao: oh good, another keyboard cowboy. Thanks toughguy.

Not sure what it is with this forum, but it sure seems like there are some angry people on here.

If someone would like to offer any constructive feedback, I would be thankful.

It's just that this shot has been repeated ad nauseam.

Try to put some sort of spin on it. Maybe try just that...spin the ornament :sexywink:...IDK I'm just BS'ing

I'm neither a keyboard cowboy nor angry, but I am one tough hombre. You asked a question, I gave an opinion. Simple as that.

What do you like about the image? You couldn't put your finger on it, but I landed five on it straight away. What's the problem? Want a pat on the back?

oldmacman certainly improved on the image, but that is not what you're after is it? You want a good shot right out of the camera, don't you?

Now go take another shot better than this one, but consider an interesting subject, composition, WB, focus, choice of aperture first.

Thank you. You're changes were very helpful. Right now I'm limited to only having Picasa to do any tweaking. I will be getting Lightroom shortly, so it is helpful to see the changes as you made them. Questions: Is my bokeh okay in my original pic or should it be crisp as exemplified by your changes? Would it degrade the picture if I sharpened the ornament as you did, but left the rest of it as it is? Also, it seems like my bokeh has lines in it. I'm assuming that this is from the branches in my tree as there are some without lines, but is this acceptable or looked upon as a negative thing? Is there something that I could have done to avoid this? Thanks again for your help.

Oops... I just noticed you have a "Not ok to edit" flag. Did you just switch that or did I miss it. I'm usually pretty careful about checking before posting an edit, so sorry about that.

I think your bokeh circles should be crisper. Derrel has posted a couple really nice bokeh pics the last couple days. Here is the most recent one. I don't have any negative thoughts to branches showing up in the bokeh. Why would that be a concern to someone?

No worries. It did say "not okay", but I'm going to change that right now, actually because it really does help to see what the picture can look like...

You're right, the circles should be more crisp. Is this something that would benefit from me dropping my ISO? I'm wondering if noise from my high ISO is making them more blurry. I didn't take this with manual focus, so maybe it was the auto focus that wasn't exactly spot on? I had the camera set to spot focus on one of the red berries on the ornament. Looks like I need to go back and play with a few things. Thanks again for your help

I say sharpen the image and work on your WB. Get a grey card and go from there

To me, it's a little too dark, out of focus, has some noise (looks like it was shot at a high ISO) and the red bokeh lights on the left, with all the others being clear, is distracting.

I like oldmac's edit though.

Excellent edit oldmacman!!! This is a nice shot...it would look great with text overlayed across the top, or across the bottom on the blank table surface, to turn the photo into the cover of a Christmas card. I think the out of focus highlights look okay...there's always a chance some will have the lines through them, while others will be pure, round circles.

Thanks, you're right-- Now that you mentioned it, the red bokeh (caused by an ornament on the tree) is the only thing I see other than the damn part of the metal cap to the ornament that is caught on the inside of the ornament and not showing.... LOL Arrgh!

Yes, I agree that the sharpened image looks much better. Thanks for the input...

Thank you. I definitely have some things to work on, but it is helpful to hear all of the feedback to know which direction to go to improve my images.
