analog.universe: RFP = Request for Proposal. Government asking for solutions from vendors. I had to write part of one, documenting the techie stuff on the system we were trying to replace -- "This is how, what we've got, works."

Yep.
No real snow this year, but we don't usually get much, if any. It's better that we don't - 1-1/2" will cause unbelievable stress around here; 3" shuts us down.

I've never seen Vermont shut down in the snow.

I went home early from work one day because we got like 14 inches before lunch, but I work outside town. I've seen downtown plowed spotless the day after 30 inches...

I hear ya - got to witness that in Holyoke, Mass a number of years ago. Nope, Washington, DC is not a snow town - I guess the hot air emanating from Capitol Hill keeps most of the cold stuff away.

Around here, even an 1" of the white stuff shuts EVERYthing down. I've heard them call off school because it's started snowing, even before any sticks to anything. Then you wake up the next morning, and there is NO snow, and NO school.

Better they close them in the beginning than have to close them later and (it has happened more than once) kids getting stuck there.
