1930s Ensign folding camera - Compur shutter with sync flash socket?

Good morning,

Can anyone identify this socket on my compur shutter please? After some online research I suspect it might be a sync flash socket which seems unusual for the camera's age but perhaps a post-war modification?

The first version of the flash sync was a circular reflector attaching
very low to the front standard where only the bulb was replace af-
ter every shot. The later version saw a handle holding the flash head
attached to the back standard and linked via cable to the front stan-
dard's lens — like yours.
