1st Day with 50MM f1.4, First Daw Shoot in RAW

man, i feel like i learned so much from reading this site for just 1 day...

there's a lot of "first"s in the picture below

it's my first time shooting in RAW... after spending some time editing my jpegs for the first time yesterday...

it's my first time with the 50mm prime. it just came in the mail today

the first pictures i took after i read up on the basics of composition during the day (i'd really welcome a lot of C&C in that area)

when i got home, it was already dark outside, so not too much to shoot at. so i shot the cheap o 18-55mm that i swapped off for the 50mm

pretty good but since it goes all the way down to 1.4 use it to your advantage....like take a picture of your/somebody's face and only have the nose in focus. O and to samanax you can always save the picture on your computer than right click, properties , summary tab and there is your EXIF

yup, those were the correct shot specs, i had to brighten it up a bit pp


how do i like the 50? it's really too soon for me to tell. i only took about 10 pictures, and i only have my crappy 18-55mm that came with the camera to compare with. but i did read an article about the 50mm lens on the feb issue of Popular Photography, which had me convinced that i'd better get one. my main assignment is to shoot concerts.. so i'm looking forward to use it on that application. next one is saturday. another one next saturday, when my polarizer and hood also get shipped to me.

ahhhh they aren't that expensive and allow for interesting shots

I'll get one. Promise. I just bought a 17-85mm IS Canon lens today to replace my stock lens that I got with my 20D. So I should probably wait a little bit before spending any kind of money on more equipment.

The f1.4 is a little expensive.

The f1.8 is under $100. On the other hand, you sacrifice build quality. Some have reported the lens falling apart just from normal use and auto-focus. On the other hand, many more have reported zero problems and are quite impressed by it's image quality.

So, do your homework and decide what's best for you.

yeah, the 1.8 was really tempting... but i figured i'll probably get the 1.4 eventually anyways, so i went with that
