Dear All,

It's my first time, I took the below photos in raw format. For sure, I still don't get the point of using raw format, instead of jpeg format which I usually used to. Then I tried to play around with the settings which are available in camera raw application.

Kindly need your C&C.

The point of using Raw is that it has the most image data.

Raw files have a bit depth of at least 12-bits. That means each color channel can represent 4096 gradations of tone.

JPEG is only has an 8-bit depth and 8 bits can only represent 256 gradations of tone per color channel, leaving very little editing headroom. Which isn't surprising because JPEG was designed as a final, finished, print format, that was never intended to be edited any further than what gets spit out of the camera.

That's why so many edited JPRGs have banding, posterization, and/or image noise issues.

All JPEGs start as Raw data files. The camera discards up to 80% of the image color data before the photographer ever see's the JPEG.
