I'm interested in knowing the far you reach with a 70-200mm lens, as I'm sure many other do. 200mm is the biggest focal length that one can get extremely inexpensive for the money. Canon's 70-200mm f/4L is one I might get one day, but I'm interesting in seeing its reach.

I've tried my father's old 80-210mm on his Olympus OM10 quatro (35mm film), and that's a pointer. Any photo from such a lens is welcome in this thread, but those showing its reach would be great :) Birds'n stuff, y'know.
Not limited to canon's range, of course :)

Take care!

the 70-300vr nikkor lens is probably the best bang for the buck for decent quality, you didn't specify Canon only ;)

Range wise, anything goes. For me, Canon only ;) But this thread is meant for everyone, nice to bring up that one for the pityful nikkonians

jk on the last comment, ofc! ;)

Please mention it if you've cropped, obviously :)

It can reach as far as you can see. Whether it is useable or not is a different story.

About 4 feet away, cropped to 5x7 but you can see how much came off comparing to the next two images...

Just under 30 yds at 200mm...

And just under 20 miles at 200mm...

Looking at these shots are going to tell you nothing. They could be cropped, or they could be taken from 5 feet away, or 20. Go to this page. Choose your crop factor, photo ratio, 200mm and a distance ( start at around 20 or 30 feet and click calculate. Then look at the drawing of the six foot person. If I am reading this correctly, it will take about 25 meters (82 feet) to fill the frame with a 6ft person at 200mm on a Canon 1.6 crop body. So to fill the frame with a small bird you would probably want to be under 10 feet or so away.

I see what you're saying, goonies!

And I said I was joking. Whether you're able to understand that, is something I won't go into. I'm sorry if you felt offended, or somehow that I was acting distasteful. Also, I has been under the impression that there's an internal, funny "war" going amongst Canon users and Nikon users.

Thank you for that link, bookmarked!

Whether I am able to understand what? If this entire thread was a "joke" do yourself a favor and avoid wasting peoples time next time you decide to post. Its a quick way to get added to everyones ignore list.

Oh, the joking part was aimed at Mr. Kundalini. The thread was an attempt to learn something, the degrading comment about people using Nikon was meant as a joke. I'm sorry if you misunderstood.

Yeah, I originally took that part as a joke. In that case, try quoting people in your responses or at the very least, address them by name. You address me by name, then go off on a tangent, and then come back to thanking me for the link. Gets a bit confusing. Do you have ADHD?
