I need something like...THIS. or THIS.

Just ONE ..white.. or Gold or Vintage looking *&* Sign. At this point im done being picky. I searched every store in the city ( almost literally), Michaels, hobby lobby, Joanns, walmart, a few other craft and hobby stores...( They didnt have the *&* and if they did, it wasnt bigger than 4 inches tall. Checked ebay, amazon... craiglist.. google. And they all go back to the UK or something. what the frick!

Why are these so hard to find?!!

Does ANYONE know where to get these? I need on at LEAST a foot tall.. it will be used as a prop, held between 2 subjects for a shoot!

I'd appreciate the help!

Could you not make one out of heavy cardboard and then use some spray paint of your choice to colour it...don't know, just asking?

Cheers,

WesternGuy

I swear I've seen these in craft stores........Just buy the 4" one and resize it in photoshop ...lol

@WG-I thought about making one in wood.. I'm pretty crafty. But i dont have ANY tools to do so.. so I'd have to invest more into it, Id rather pay for one. :) Cardboard may be my only hope at this point.

@Rockstar-It seems to me like I have seen them everywhere in craft stores . Its a popular Item. They had the letters all day long A-Z, Music Signs and notes... but no &. blah.

I wasnt sure if maybe someone ( in the US ) had bought one off of a site somewhere and may have had some where to direct me....

Oh.. forgot to answer that. Yeah... Im pretty Crap-tastic when it comes to PhotoShop ( or any photo manipulating) for that matter...so not even sure HOW i would do that safely, on a sure bet. SO, I wont count on it. :lmao:

You might be able to cut it out yourself with a Dremel with the right attachment. I have used mine for lots of diffrent things like that and they are under $100 bucks and im sure you would be able to use it again. Or you could go to a home improvment store and see if you can pay sombody there to cut it out for you.
My wife is a florist and has had to hire "handy man" type companys for stuff like that before and most of them are pretty cheap when it comes to quick jobs like that.
Hope one of those helps. Good luck. :)

Not to mention, if you shot a 4" & sign, and photoshop it to be larger in their hands like Rockstar suggested... It would still look like they're holding a small & sign, rather than natural.

Check your yellow pages for 'Signs' or 'Sign Manufacturers/makers'. I'm pretty sure that they'll be able to supply you a fairly large ampersand.

Go to home depot and see if they have any scrap pieces of wood paneling or any remnant small pieces you can buy. Then buy this..... Buck Bros. 6 in. Coping Saw - 40336 at The Home Depot

Then trace your shape. Paneling is thinner than a block of wood so it would be easier to cut. It tends to spinter at the edges though due to the way that it is compressed. If you cover the cutting areas in masking tape first it will keep it from splintering and you can peel it off after cutting. Or if you need it thicker, get a piece of MDF which is composite wood and will be easier to cut by hand. I would also apply the masking tape though just incase.

You could also buy a piece of sheet metal at home depot and cut it out and paint it any color you want and even beat it up to look like an old worn sign afterwards. Or even buy some diamond textured stuff like this 24" x 48" .063 polished aluminum diamond plate

If you drew the template I am sure any local shop would cut it out for you with their tools for like 10 or 20 bucks.

You can always get a clown to tie it with a balloon like a balloon animal

^This.. is an awesome idea. I'm going to look through the phone books and see who I can find :)

Gonna check the link out! Thanks!

"ampersand"!! Thats it!!! Thank you, lol.

Now that I know WHAT it is actually called.. I will probably have a little more luck than before. I am looking through the links recommended as well. Thank you for all who gave some input!:sexywink:

EDIT:

Ok .. you guys kick ass!! Knowing the official name for the damn sign made life easier. Turns out they're not as cheap as I was wishing for..so I still may check into making my own. But etsy (http://www.etsy.com/search/handmade?q=ampersand) has some amazing results. Awesome!
