I like it as well, 'though I'm a bit undecided on the green "flare". To me the relative softness of that isn't playing nicely with the lines and angles in the rest of the image.

Okay, since you asked what you are missing, I will explain it very matter-of-factly.

Look up Cubism. Maybe it will be apparent to you that this is a Cubist-inspired photographic image. That it is not a single plane of depth being shown. The photo is not conventionally "pretty"..it's something many might think of as being ugly. It is discordant, not harmonious. It's a neat photo. Art History 101: What is Cubism?

Can you not actually SEE the multitude of planes, in this flat image? See how the entire image is made up of MANY, small areas, which together, comprise a larger "whole" area?

If you have no art background, there's plenty of reference and educational material available, in libraries, museums, and on the web. No disrespect is meant by anything written here, but this photo plays upon an idea, and a well-understood style that is over 100 years old now. Perhaps it's time to speak about the style of photos we see?

The image is not of a pretty girl, a cute kitten, a lovely sunset, a breathtaking landscape. The image is discordant, not harmonious. And yet, it's kind of a neat image.

I was simply expressing my utter ignorance on the subject that seemed well understood by you, but was missing to me. Thanks for the 50-cent tour of 'cubism'. I'll check out your link.

Thanks Peeb. I appreciate your candor and comment. I think since we all are working in a visual medium, that the best terms to use are ones that are well-defined and understood by other visual artists. The photo is a great example of Cubist ideas about how a scene can be rendered. The OP's photo is **so different** from a single, simple, one-plane reflection shot that is has its own name, its own type: easy to create in a painting, but harder to create with a camera!
