I like this composition, but it bothers me that the foreground is so out-of-focus. In a case like this making it darker usually makes it less obvious.

Do you mean not acceptably sharp ? Focus is, I believe on bricks. But you are right, it should be sharp, especially with a lens that short. View is interesting, I think Fred didn't use all his "powers".

I love the shot and the title.

However in this case i think all of it being in focus would make a stronger image.

Somehow they don't have the same magic like the first composition. Instantly I can see what is it, there is no moment of discovery.
