Why don't the camera makers rotate the sensor so it's vertical and call it a portrait camera. Then we wouldn't need grips except for a landscape shot lol

Well then why not simply make them square? (I really like using my 6x6 mamiya.)

Because you couldn't get a landscape shot then silly .... lol
But you do have endless possibilities for Dutch Tilt

If you've spent the money on a Nikon D810, coughing up the cash for the Nikon grip is well worth not voiding your warranty if and when something bad should happen.

That aside I dropped my Canon Grip in water (dumb engagement shoots) for my 7D and almost cried because I had to go back to shooting without it. The convenience is awesome and the double battery capacity is great too.
