On two separate occasions I have had the new 40D freeze on me for no apparent reason. It will permit exposures if Live view is chosen but will not react to the shutter release in "normal" use. It seem to have been cured by selecting Clear user functions to restore original settings and removing and re-inserting the battery - a pain in the middle of a children shoot in a school this afternoon!

Any ideas?

The live view feature is new for Canon...sounds like there might be a quirk in the firmware. I'd report it to Canon and be watchful for a new firmware version.

Have reported to Canon and given Incident No. and told someone will be in contact within 2-3 days.

How do you like the 40D, all things considered?

It is nice to use and handle and performed well except the freezing on me. Took a great deal of children in natural light - was downloading on to a laptop as they watched and converting to a drawing of them and producing results that parents wanted - Photo and drawing. It seems a great improvement on the 350D in metering and colour.
