AF 50mm f/1.8 D:
The optical construction is made of 6 elements in 5 groups without any special elements.

AF-S 50mm f/1.8G:
The new 50mm f/1.8 lens construction consists of seven elements in six groups, with one aspherical lens element to reduce instances of coma and aberration, even when shooting wide open.


So ... beside faster AF (I assume), it seems like the new one maybe better optically based on the spec. And not sure about the lens coating => lens flares handling.

Oh i already knew that just couldn't understand what he was saying. So are the two lenses the same aside from the auto focusing motor being built in with the g lens?

Dao summarized it pretty well. There is a bit different formula between the two in glasses used. Typically I would wait and see examples from a new lens before purchasing. You never know if its a good glass until you check its pictures for aberrations/distortions/flares... just because its newer it doesn't necessary mean its better. If the price differences doesn't bother you, I would wait and see for the new g lens. Assume the picture quality is the same, you also have SWM. SWM is faster and quieter than in body motor, so there is some advantage there but whether that's worth the price difference is up to you.

Otherwise, the 50mm 1.8D lens is proven and perfectly fine for its price.

Want to say I had heard the G lens will provide better quality images compared to the D....but will probably need to wait until it's release and then see what the reviews say.
