50mm lens help?

The f1.8 is okay for the money but you could grow with the f1.4 since it is better quality.

I had one and I gotta tell you, it is not worth the money, the manual focus ring is all but unusable, and God help you if you drop, or bump it hard. If one plans only to use it once in a while, maybe. But it will not hold up to a working lenses life.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

Your opinion does have value. It,s not "Just" your opinion, it IS your opinion. Be Bold! Be proud! :-D

For the moment, I have not seen the need to use another prime lens.

However, the rule of thumb is "Do not skimp on glass, it is not the place to save money."
So, OP, there are a lot of good points about going for the f/1.4
(as long as you don't keep it at f/1.4, shiny? Shiny).

I, personally, have not encountered the same problems as what the others have enumerated and am really happy with it.

thanks for the honesty, everyone else too. i am going to get the 1.8 and if i see it be needed in the future i will invest in a nicer one but i will make some good shots with the 1.8 i am sure. im picking it up today as a reward for finishing this monster of a midterm :grumpy:
