50mm lens help?

well i was really wanting to get one to get used to actually moving around to get a shot, and not just rely on the zooming abilities of my other lens.
i have heard the 1.8 is cheap in build quality but does get the job done... it may not be as epi as the 1.2 but it can hold its own against the 1.4 from what ive heard

i think im gonna pick it up seeing how cheap it is. may find a preowned one local too

The f1.8 is okay for the money but you could grow with the f1.4 since it is better quality.

Tameron and Sigma have there own take on it, heavier glass.
But honestly, the Canon at 150$, it's the best 150$ you'll spent in a long time.

I had one and I gotta tell you, it is not worth the money, the manual focus ring is all but unusable, and God help you if you drop, or bump it hard. If one plans only to use it once in a while, maybe. But it will not hold up to a working lenses life.

Of course, this is only my opinion.

Your opinion does have value. It,s not "Just" your opinion, it IS your opinion. Be Bold! Be proud! :-D

For the moment, I have not seen the need to use another prime lens.

However, the rule of thumb is "Do not skimp on glass, it is not the place to save money."
So, OP, there are a lot of good points about going for the f/1.4
(as long as you don't keep it at f/1.4, shiny? Shiny).

I, personally, have not encountered the same problems as what the others have enumerated and am really happy with it.

thanks for the honesty, everyone else too. i am going to get the 1.8 and if i see it be needed in the future i will invest in a nicer one but i will make some good shots with the 1.8 i am sure. im picking it up today as a reward for finishing this monster of a midterm :grumpy: but yes thank u all!!!! i am sure i will love it and eventually upgrade, but for now i am not worried

just got it! love this lens! ill eventually upgrade, but for right now, intro to bokeh!

Be sure to post some pics!

Think the 1.4 has an extra blade or 2 and gives smoother bokeh

Only when u stop down, wide open the blades completely retract giving u perfectly round bokeh.

The 50 1.8 is a fine lens for the price. A bit flimsy in build quality but the depth and picture quality is excellent.
