50mm lens help?

I'll amend that to say: "Only shoot at 1.8 or 1.4 sometimes, when you understand the sacrifices involved in doing so."


Otherwise we'd all own lenses with f/5.6 maximum apertures....

Which we would have to shoot at F8 to get maximum sharpness!

Until someone develops good technique, and has the knowledge as to what shooting "wide open" entails... it can be very frustrating. So I usually recommend against it until those conditions are met!

well i was really wanting to get one to get used to actually moving around to get a shot, and not just rely on the zooming abilities of my other lens.
i have heard the 1.8 is cheap in build quality but does get the job done... it may not be as epi as the 1.2 but it can hold its own against the 1.4 from what ive heard

i think im gonna pick it up seeing how cheap it is. may find a preowned one local too

This might be an interesting read for the 50mm fans.. even though it is Nikon mount based, still has a lot of good info! Look at the Bokeh shapes and quality!

Tameron and Sigma have there own take on it, heavier glass.
But honestly, the Canon at 150$, it's the best 150$ you'll spent in a long time.

Have you seen the price of gold lately? I think the 1.8 would be worth about $8200.

Ok I have to give you that...
But in my opinion my 105mm macro lens is also worth its weight in gold (I use it far more than my 50mm) and that lens is about 4 times as heavy!

Think the 1.4 has an extra blade or 2 and gives smoother bokeh

Having gone through the same thing you are, if u have the money go with the 1.4. I used gift cards and bought the 1.4 and spent probably 40 bucks out of pocket. The 1.8 is Significantly cheaper and its build reflects that price. From what I heard it feels like a toy. If u can't afford the 1.4 then Def go with the 1.8.

Excellent lens! I have one in Nikon mount... sharp, fast, and great bokeh! It is heavy and well built... not like the rather cheesy "Plastic-Wonder" 50's that are so popular, since they are cheap! You do get what you pay for!
