Picked up the MK III and a 16-35L a few weeks ago, finally had a change to play around with HDR a little bit. Still new to HDR so let me know what you think

It's a bit flat--I'm wondering if HDR was needed since there is low contrast and your overcast subject mostly fills the frame. I personally think some shadows and contrast would make your subject more imposing and moody.

Was this a single or multi-shot HDR photo?

It simply looks overprocessed and I'm not sure this was a good choice for HDR. Just because you can do HDR doesn't mean you should. The textures in the grass, sky and trees are distracting.

This was a 7 exposure HDR. Here is the unmodified normal exposure image

With the contrast in the image, I don't think you would need to (over)process that many exposures.
