I know that a lot of people wonder about this set up, because I have searched countless websites and message boards myself wondering how well it would work. This had about 10% cropped off for composition purposes. Other than that it had a very minor amount of processing and thats it.

Beauty of a shot! Could do with a little selective light added around the birds head, just to help bring out the details in the eye and beak to the viewer - at the moment I'm hard pressed to really "see" the eye in there.

Otherwise a good solid shot. I'd be interested to see a 100% crop from the setup - I used the same combo with a canon 2*TC and never really found that it was to my liking image quality wise with the original 70-200mm.

Yeah, its definately not as good of quality as the normal lens, but not too shabby and better to me than spending another $1500 on a longer lens. I actually dodged the face a bit, didn't want to over do it though and add a bunch of noise, so I went easy on it. I figured with the early morning lighting, it would still work. Good call though.

You might want to check your flickr settings - your whole profile is set to private ;)

Also for those interested in the quality the sigma 2*Tc is pretty much as good as the current Canon 2*TC M2 versions - save that the sigma is about 0.05 times shorter (its about a 1.95*TC) but this difference really only shows when using the two side by side.

Yeah, I just read about that minor difference between the Canon and Sigma. I actually picked this Sigma up for cheap when I bought my Bigma. Decided I would test it with the 70-200 and possibly resell the Bigma down the road and keep the faux 400mm set up since it has IS. The Canon 2x has weather sealing though. I may pick one up one of these days, but was thinking of waiting for the MarkIII to come down in price, they supposedly are better at suppressing CA.

My profile is set to private because I only use Flickr to post pics here. Alot of the pics I have on there are edited versions of others pics, so I don't want people accidentally stumbling upon them when searching on Flickr.

Ahh not a bad idea - though you could just dump all the edited shots into a single group and make that collection itself private and leave the rest open - that or do what I do and use photobucket for that kind of stuff.

And yes the M3 are going to be very interesting to see how they change. I've already seen a big change in the 70-200mm from the M1 to the M2 and the new super telephotos have some very improved sharpness charts up (since we don't have them on the market yet). So there is a potential for a big improvement with the new TCs - esp the 2*TC which is always the more demanding of the two.

Yeah, I think for it to work with the new 70-200 markII, it will have to be improved. I know that it has better focusing supposedly but only if used with the new lenses.

Yeah, I don't really use flickr or photobucket or actually show casing my work. I am working on getting some edited shots together and then I am going to begin putting my smugmug site together. Now that summer is over, I am getting out shooting more. I was kinda in a dry spell for a while and since I haven't been shooting very long, I feel like I need to diversify my portfolio before posting it for viewing.

I look forward to seeing a final portfolio!

Also just a thought on the shot above do you have a speedlite flash? You could control the harsher light and the shadowing problem if you use a speedlite flash with a Better Beamer/Flash Extender to give some fill flash light to the shot.

Yeah, I have a flash and better beamer. Just didn't have any of my other gear with me. Just my Bigma, 2x, 70-200, gripped 7D and monopod. Was traveling light, not that that is very light either haha.

Hahaha I know that feeling well - each time I try to "travel light" I end up turning around to come back to collect little bits - normally ending up with most of the bags contents back outside with me again. ;)

I will let you know when I get my site up and running. Probably be several more weeks.

haha, yeah, I typically take everything but this was more of just a test run with those lens set ups. Just wanted to see what they could do without much planning involved. I tend to forget that I have the better beamer though, even when I do bring all of my gear.
