70-200mm f2.8 lens

Hello,

I've been thinking about increasing my veriaty of lenses. I have been looking at the 70-200mm f2.8 for my D7000. Nikkor, Sigma and Tamron has this lens. And ofcourse Nikkor is the most expencive one. I was just wondering if anyone has any expeience with these 3 lenses. Pro's and con's or any advice on which one to chose?

If you have the money buy the Nikkor and don't even think about it. The VR-I and VR-II are both better than either off brand lens from all that I've read. The Sigma is probably then the next choice then the Tamron. I've done a fair amount of research on them but I haven't used them so this is just opinion based off all the info I've gathered.

Look for a used Nikon (VRI not the II) for ~$1300 and save. The VRI is just as good on a DX body optically.

Agree - go with the Nikkor if you have it. I'm still using a VRI and it's a great lens!

You can also consider all the Nikon 80-200 mm f/2.8 lenses. :thumbup: for a very long time, the 80-200 2.8 was my walking around, rarely off the camera. Loved that lens, and there are times I wonder why i up graded.

love the nikon 70-200 vr II. wouldnt think about selling it. it blows the sigma 70-200 hsm II out of the water.

If warranty is a factor get the Sigma....the EX models have a 4 year warranty

If your willing to roll the dice the nikon it is the better lens but you need to find one still in warranty.

I too was in the money boat when I got mine....I got a Sigma 70-200 OS new in box from my local camera shop and it has been awsome.

Not exactly a big variaty of answeres, which is good. I'll save up a little extra and get the nikkor lens

I too was in the money boat when I got mine....I got a Sigma 70-200 OS new in box from my local camera shop and it has been awsome.

I wouldn't pay much extra for a warranty, pro glass is extremely reliable unless you abuse it (which would void the warranty).

Stick with Nikon, and go for the 80-200mm if you can't quite afford the 70-200mm.

True dat - but its no lack of cost and lack of that greatness/performance you suggested. I enjoy the warp speed focus, best optics available, VRII taking pics at 200mm at much slower shutter speeds, etc etc

Now the Sigma 50mm 1.4 blows the Nikkor/Canon 50mms away, but its bigger, heavier and cost more. I stilled recently chucked one in the bag

Yeah the sigma stuff is a bit bulky but the IQ is insane. I picked up a 17-50 f2.8 and do not regret spending the extra money for it over the tamron. Crystal clear and with the hsm its really fsat and super quiet. I was shocked at how quiet it really is.

I have the Tamron and am really liking it so far. But I wont hesitate to admit if I had the cash I would have picked up the Nikon version. I'm still happy with my purchase though.
