Hi guys, i want to attend a photography contest, this is my first time, and they want our entries to be submitted in 8"x12" size in any orientation.. How would i do this? I only use lightroom to export and extract my images after a little tweaking.. how do i know what size of pictures i am taking? I am using a crop sensor body rebel t4i 650d...

I shoot more than a year already but i dont know about this size of photos, maybe because i ddnt really wanted to try to participate in photo contests.. So please bear with my ignorance.. thank you...

The sensor on your camera is 2:3. This means it is already taking a photo in the correct 8:12 ratio. When you export from Lightroom this ratio will remain the same unless you cropped to a different ratio in the develop module

If the unit used is 4 inches then 2:3 will make an 8x12 print.
If the unit used is 2 inches then 2:3 will make a 4x6 print.
If the unit used is 10 inches then 2:3 will make a 20x30 print.

For online display you just need to be sure the aspect ratio is 2:3 because there are no inches, just pixels.
The pixel dimensions of the photo, the pixel resolution of the display, and the software application used to display the image determine how big the photo is on an electronic display.

FWIW - 8x12 (2:3) would be a vertical (portrait) oriented image. 12x8 (3:2) would be a horizontal (landscape) oriented image.
In other words the convention is the width is always stated before the height.

For any other aspect ratio, a 2:3 aspect ratio original has to be cropped to some extent.

If you are going to upload it somewhere to be printed, you will have to find a shop that offers 8x12 inch size (some only offer 8x10).

Your DSLR images are already 3:2 shape to allow 8x12, but you surely want to work on a contest picture a little more first.
See Image Resize - Cropping, Resampling, Scaling about these first basic concepts.
