why choose such a high ISO, you could easily have used 200 and still been fast enough. (~1/80)

You cut off his chin by shooting in landscape. Shoot portrait to get more subject less background.
 
I think this was one of my testing of the ISO, I had accidently deleted allllll the other pictures, but found this one. I was trying to show my mom the difference of the ISO's
 
good comments from trever, watch those highlights in the background they are distracting and blown out yo.
 
Use a flash yo.

Blown out means overexposed, to the point of not having any data in that area.


I was going to show a crop to try ro save this image, but "Your Photos Are NOT OK to Edit"

Word.

Using a flash will take your portraits to another level. You actually can expose your background correctly while your subject is already covered with the flash.
 
Can't give good "verbal" directions on a crop.

But, whatever. Learn away!
