I like the first one but I would say to tilt it just a little so the bottle isn't leaning.

Those cupcakes are awesome! Maybe focus so more of the little critters are nice and sharp.

#1 is tilted and I don't get it. What are you trying to communicate? I don't see the relation between these two objects.

#2 is a good subject, but the light is boring. Background is light, foreground and subject are dark. Which means the background is yelling for attention while the subject is "quiet". Add the specular hot spots on the background and it's worse. The DoF is too shallow in my opinion... I'd like to see all the eyes in focus.

Thanks for the c&c

Bazooka the relation between the two is the cake was made with the liqueur. Its a raspberry liqueur.

I did see the tilt in the photograph.. I will work on that next time.

Focus is the real issue here on both.get that corrected and give it another go!:D

I think it's more accurate to suggest the DOF selected was not appropriate, rather than that the focus was off.

Well on the first one I wanted the cake to be a little out of focus. It was kinda the goal lol. That is why I had the shallow DOF... But you are right they are in focus but I had my lens pretty wide open.

I am not seeing anything in focus, so I suppose the DOF and focus go hand in hand .

Ok, I see what you were going for then, but the composition doesn't say this, at least to me. Right now you have the bottle basically in focus (although it's a little blurry) and a portion of the cake in focus. Both are drawing equal attention but there is a separation between them in the form of a strip of light. That, in my mind, indicates that these things don't have anything in common. I think you could tell the story better here...maybe have the cap off, some used utensils, etc, and the cake OOF in the foreground, or background... I think you're almost there, but not quite.

Thanks for some great ideas here bazooka... I will try this again soon. I like the idea of the top off and maybe a tablespoon with some of the liqueur in it and a bar of chocolate with shavings around it.
