Hi Everyone,

Here are two shots I took over the weekend, one at the Amherst Fireworks and the other I was lucky enough to walk into just outside my door. All comments are greatly appreciated!

ooooh i love the fireworks shot! so engaging to my eye....may i ask what settings you used ?

Noodles- I shot the fireworks at ISO 100, f/11 and bulb mode. I set up my camera on a tripod with a cable release, and then as I saw the rockets fly I would begin exposing, then close down the shutter when the firework was fading. It took some playing around and getting used to but I ended up being really happy with the results.

Very good!, i've been reading up on how to take fireworks and that's what i had thought but wanted to make sure. We have celebration of lights starting near the end of this month and I wanted to be ready. Did you set to manual exposure and set it infinity ?

Yes, I set to manual exposure (with setting described in previous post) and manual focus, which I squared away by focusing on a cloud that was hanging out before the sun went down (it was at or near infinity). Combined with the f/11 this was plenty of DoF to keep the fireworks in focus.
Also if you are looking for good info on how to photograph fireworks check out Joe McNally's excellent post: Shooting Fireworks « Joe McNally’s Blog
