I got these this morning. The Lantana is a popular spot and gets regular visitors all day.

Humming birds feathers are really iridescent hey, good shots.

Thanks.

He comes several times a day and goes to pretty much every flower on the plant. So its a matter of waiting until he hits the right flower at the right angle to catch the iridescence. Otherwise it just looks dark.

I put my chair and tripod close to the plant and waited with some coffee and a cigar. I didn't have to wait long, he buzzed over my shoulder and was nice enough to pose well!

These were taken with my D3 and a Tamron 300 f/2.8. But for some reason the exif data doesn't show that I'm also using a Tamron 2x teleconverter. So these are actually taken at 600mm.

Do they hang around all year or are they seasonal for your area?

Beautiful! Love a good hummingbird shot in nature.

These - and a few other species - are here all year. Besides the Green-Breasted Mango, I have posted pics of the White-Bellied Emerald. I have see Cinnamon Hummingbirds but have yet to get any good shots.

Belize has its share of cool hummingbirds but Honduras is THE place for all the really cool ones.

Until I moved here, I had never seen a hummingbird in the wild. Living in NY, I only ever saw them on a feeder and only the Ruby Throated.

The behavior is much different if all you are used to is the Ruby and a feeder, I don't see nearly as many territorial skirmishes. And nobody is "camping out" making sure no one else dare feed from the Lantana. I have seen him chase away the occasional butterfly but nothing crazy.

Another difference is that he will pretty much hit every flower on the plant but never land..not even once. I've never timed him but it is well over a minute and probably closer to two of him buzzing around and dipping his beak. Once he's done, he zips off into the distance.

Wonderful! Love the iridescence!

Thanks!

The 2nd one is a new favorite. Unfortunately it was taken AFTER I picked two of my shots to have blown up to hang in the living room. Of course I like the one I chose...I just like this better.
