Photos OK to edit
Lots of Birch knees at the swamp today. I'd love some c&c on this photo....I kinda like it, but really have no idea how to look at a photo and decide what I'd change! (Other than that black box thing in the background!)

Is that a grill cover ?

The background is really too much of this shot, my eye went right to that. What aperture were you shooting at ?

This was shot at f/5.6...the highest my lens will go when zoomed in. Maybe more blurred would provide a less distracting background...

Here's what I came up with quickly:

(Sorry about the link. I have it set to private so it doesn't show up in my photo stream since it isn't mine. The new Flickr won't let me post the BB code with it private. It really does link to Flickr.)

Added sharpening and contrast, and darkened the shadows just a little. Then a quick clone job in the back. Done in Photoshop Elements 11.

Pick a picture and then, in whatever software you are using, just start playing with it. If you don't like it, don't save it. But just start moving sliders around and see what they do and what you like.

As far as this shot, I think a little more foundation to the bottom of the shot would help. Right now it just kind of ends. Also, the top of the knee lining up with the palm in the background bothers me. Just a slight move to the right would have fixed that.
