A DSLR Camera workshop - good idea?

I wasn't sure where else to post this, but I found an interesting offer in my neck of the woods in Toronto for an in studio workshop on DSLR's and lighting techniques, leading to the building of a portfolio . A 3 hour session for $55 (regularly $149) from Red Flag's Deal of The Day. I'm a beginner, and was wondering if a workshop like this one would be useful for me or if anyone here has been to something like this before. Thanks!

In three hours, if the instuctor isn't a complete tool, you are bound to learn $55 worth of information if you're a beginner and the course is directed towards your skillset.
