Really, really cold here this morning. 17 degrees when I left home but it didn't seem to bother the birds at all.

Coopers Hawk (Chicken Hawk)

There were three Downy Woodpeckers in the tree I was standing by when this guy landed straight over my head and ran them off. He saw me about the same time I saw him so I only had time for a couple of quick shots. I really wish he had stuck around for a bit.

Ring-Necked Ducks (name edited, I had it wrong. See posts below)

Very nice shots.
I like pic 1 & 2.

Great perspective of the hawk. Nice work.

Nice shots, I really like the second one. It looks like the bird is holding on for dear life, as the saying goes.

Thank you, I appreciate that.

Thanks! I really wish he had stuck around for a few more shots, I really do. I agree the perspective is unusual and I found out that it's hard to hold a 500mm lens pointed nearly straight up ;)

Thanks! Woodpeckers do tend to appear to defy gravity sometimes, and I love to watch them.

Great Pics but you Scaups are Ring Necked Ducks

Crap! You're right. They both have light blueish / grayish bills and for some reason I thought it was the Scaup that had a white ring around the bill. You are right though, thanks for the correction.

Great shot! Very sharp.

Thanks, glad you like them. I went back to that same tree today and not a bird to be seen ;)
