Looks like a Black-Crowned Night Heron. They are pretty strange looking little birds, tiny stocky little herons. Love the last shot of it looking straight at you.

Are these all captive birds, I assume? Nice shots.

Yes, the 1st two was at a 'Bird sanctuary' in South Africa, the last two was at a zoo in Salzburg. Not sure where I got the 3rd one, will have to check.

I didn't notice anything beyond how good these shots are, specially love the owl and the unusual pose of the heron.. these are pretty darned good!
