Re the first few flower photos:

1) I would encourage you to isolate one or two flowers. Right now, it's unclear which flower is the actual subject.

2) When you do isolate the one or two flowers, make sure your focus is spot on. Use a tripod for this.

3) I like the comp of 6. Very neat.

There I was thinking I'd had focus in... I'll have to have closer look. Interestingly enough the 2 I thought the blandest getting the praise. Thanks for the criticism, I'll have to have a closer look at the focus and crop.

I'm not saying the focus is terrible right now -- I just want to make sure that when you isolate the subject you want, you make sure that subject is clear and in focus.

The bird eye is my favorite. On the orchid shots, I am craving a bit more of a sense of luminosity in the shadows. The shadows seem a bit heavy, in need of just a little more modulation of tone.

Thanks echoyjeff222. OK got you here, not isolated clearly enough. Is there a composition in the first one then? Can't see how I could of isolated, just trash? Just curious what made you think no tripod, looking at the exif that was tripod(1/8 iso 400) fired by remote. Wondering whether I've met limits of lens, camera or myself.

Thanks Derrel, guessing as I was playing with a speedlite I suspect I'm limited. Unable to increase the light without further purchases.

I was thinking of maybe doing some light modulating in software, and dodging a few areas in software, just to give a little bit of visual relief in the shadowy parts.
