Only got a few shots here and there; a shame but being out with family kind of overrules just doing your own thing at times. Still rather pleased with what I did get

European Barn Owl

From the Raptor Trust - which also highlighted that I REALLY need practice at more bird stuff; raptors zooming past are just way too fast for me at present. Really out of practice with something moving that fast!

Great timing on these; I wonder though if a shooting position just a bit more forward of the hurdle wouldn't have been even better. Cute lil' owl!

It might have done; I must admit I do love the more forward angle of getting a horse really coming toward the camera; though its harder to shoot and more at risk of going wrong (esp with the rider losing their head being the neck or looking the wrong way). For a side on I think getting the hurdle nearly at right angles to the lens works well when the horse goes near straight at the jump and is thus shooting right past the camera in view.

Taken on a Canon 7D - 70-200mm f2.8 IS L MII
both f4, ISO 800, 1/3200sec

I could honestly have used a lower ISO for the shot and still got it sharp; but with the weather and day I was playing it safe ISO wise and the noise at that ISO is pretty modest in the conditions. If anything a little slower might have worked to my favour as with the rain a bit slower might have given it a touch of blur instead of being bright specks all over the shot.

Ok, well technically we aren't stealing them we were just borrowing them. I guess we can look at giving them back now that you are a real country again.
