It was raining just a little when I left the house but my legs hurt so bad from yesterday I figured i'd just do a quick mile walk and see if the bald eagles were around. Well 5 miles later i finally made it back to the truck lol

The Northern Flicker is one of my favorite birds

And if you are going to get a shot of a flicker you need to get the flying V

Why do some of them have a blue head ?

I must have looked kind of silly limping around out there the last couple of miles, this guy was mocking me the whole way :(

I saw my first Blue Winged Teal today but couldn't get a good shot. Oh well, maybe next time. Thanks for looking !!!!

Very nice, Bill! I've only seen a Northern Flicker once and he was on the ground so I didn't get any real good shots of it.

I can't recall the word for colors that change depending on how the light hits it, but Mallard's heads are that way. They are usually green but sometimes it will look blue and occasionally have a purple tint to it.

Love the pink throated horse bird. Nice set. Ed

Don't say anything but I think that girl colors her hair, she was a brunette last time I saw her :blushing:

I believe that would be iridescent, and I thought the same, but some of these really seem to be blue. But it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me ???

And here is a bad shot of the blue winged teal

And a bad shot of a couple of swallows who are getting fat from the millions of gnats they are feasting on lol

And another horse who doesn't mind a little touch of grey

This horse was really cool, it would have stayed there all day if i kept scratching that big nose of hers !!

Lol.. love the expression on the horses face.

She is actually camera shy so it isn't easy getting pictures of her. I have been waiting weeks to see her again, I took some shots of her that were crap so I wanted a chance to redeem myself. If anyone had any tips on how to frame a good head shot on one of these i'd love to hear it cause i can't figure it out lol

Man the colours of those Swallows is fantastic. Never seen those blues before, well not here anyway. Great to have a pair in there Bill, true beauties. Not surprised that Flicker is one of your favourite birds, can't blame you ;) Fine shooting.

All the best Bill, all fine shots.

Danny.

Always best to let those swallows land before shooting, my reflexes can't keep up with them in flight lol

Same here DS, almost every time I go out there I find something I have never seen. But I have only been doing this for a year and a half so i guess that is to be expected. Here is another bad shot of the teal, I take a lot of shots of things that may or may not be something I have seen before and check them when I get home, i wish I took more time trying to get a decent shot of that one.

She looks like she was on a bender!

Nice set! I'm especially fond of the Northern Flickers. I see them around my yard often, and love watching them hunt for food. Beautiful birds.
